Next Friends Meeting:
FPBO General Membership Meeting, Monday, October 2, 5:30 pm at the Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck Ave, Oakland, CA. The Omni is about an eight-block walk from Macarthur BART. We’ll probably meet upstairs; look at the whiteboard to find us.
Working Group Meetings:
The Outreach Working Group has suspended its meetings for now, and will regroup after the City Council vote.
The Governance Working Group is now meeting regularly, but our next meeting time is up in the air because of the 9/25 event. Watch this space.
On Tuesday, September 19, Oakland City Council will vote on the remaining $75,000. Again, details are on the front page, and we want as many of us as possible to be there in our t-shirts. Meanwhile, in case Berkeley doesn’t come through, or reduces the amount, we welcome your donation to help make up the $25,000 Oakland wants from other sources. If you are able to donate, please select “Other” at the link and put “Friends of the Public Bank of Oakland” in the “in honor of” box, so our fiscal sponsor can keep its books straight. And thank you!
Public Forum: Sustainability and Public Banking, Monday, September 25, 7:00 p.m., Oakland City Hall
A representative from the Sparkasse banks in Germany–public banks which have been instrumental in the German green revolution–will join other experts on sustainability and public banking. More details here.
Stop By Our Tables:
